5 Ways to Bring Positivity into Your Home Today!

In today’s world, it can be hard to keep calm and stay positive in the time of chaos and a pandemic. We’ve come up with an inspiring list of 5 ways to bring positivity into your home today (with a bonus tip at the end)!

Remaining optimistic in the face of social distancing, a quarantine, constant news about the pandemic, and uncertainty —requires conscious effort and continuous positive mindfulness. As Zig Ziglar has said…

“Positive thinking won’t let you do anything but it will let you do everything better than negative thinking will.” —Zig Ziglar

#1 Get Creative Individually and with Your Family

To keep your mind active and moving forward, try to make things. Artwork of any kind will help you to balance and spark positive change in your life.

It doesn’t have to be a “serious” hobby or perfection. Try doodling, painting a piece of furniture, finger-painting, get out that adult coloring book, or getting into your favorite childhood crafts. Try coming up with a fun art activity for the whole family to join in and use their creativity.

These will be great memories and where you’ll feel good about what you’ve accomplished.

#2 Play Uplifting Music

Getting some silence in the home right now with everyone at home is hard to come by… so why not turn on some fun and uplifting music.

Sometimes, we love having some feel-good background music playing, especially upbeat tunes. Play whatever music makes you feel happy and energized.

Maybe try cranking up the happy tunes and having a dance party with the family… the kids will love this and maybe the teenagers will crack a smile.

At the end of the day, your home should be a happy place, and only you know what makes you happiest.

#3 Clean and Declutter Your Living Spaces

Nothing helps to bring in a flow of positive energy like cleaning out your space. In fact, a cluttered space promotes stress. And it often leads to a lack of motivation, inability to focus or even depression (more cited about this HERE).

That’s why it’s important to clean and clear your home of all the items you no longer need. It can be the little things that are stored in your closet, kitchen, or garage.

#4 Use an Essential Oil Diffuser

Another smart way to add a boost of energy and good vibes to your space is by making your home smell amazing.

Buy a diffuser or get yours out and start using it with some essential oils like lemon, lavender, orange, peppermint, cinnamon, grapefruit, lime, etc.

There are plenty of resources that will give you suggestions for scents that will give you the boost you need at home. We love this site here.

For example, if you need an energy boost, try a stimulating essential oil like orange or lemon. But if you need to wind down, try a relaxing essential oil such as lavender (which is our favorite one to use at night time). Or if you need to breathe deep and reset your mind, try peppermint.

Feel free to experiment to see what works best for you and the family. Our kids have their favorite ones and love using it with their diffusers that light up.

#5 Unplug Often

We live in a constantly plugged-in world, but many studies have proven how this can impact our mental, physical, and emotional health. We’ve also heard that using electronics before bed can affect our sleep as well, so make sure you turn off the virtual world and connect with the real one around you.

Even though cell phones were invented so we could stay in touch with the world and our people, nowadays, many of us feel very out of touch with ourselves and others due to technology. Our homes should be a space where we can relax, unplug, and spend time talking, laughing, playing, and loving each other, not checked out spending hours on our tech devices.

If you have trouble disconnecting from the world on your screen (as most of us do), check out this helpful article from our team about technology and families.

Your home will feel much more positive, and you’ll even feel more energized by taking a break from technology every once in a while.

Another great reminder and quote from Zig Ziglar:

“We all need a daily check up from the neck up to avoid stinkin’ thinkin’ which ultimately leads to hardening of the attitudes.” —Zig Ziglar

BONUS TIP for All Families: Be Grateful!

Remaining grateful for everything you’ve been blessed with can help you to keep a positive mindset, which will make your home feel more positive, too. If you have children, make sure to remind them to say “thank you” often, and to say their blessings every night before bed.

We also write on our kitchen wall chalkboard every morning what we are grateful for that day. It’s an awesome way to start the day as individuals and as a family.

How do you keep your home positive and happy in today’s world?
