If I asked you if your life is balanced, what is your first thought? Most people immediately start to consider whether or not they have balance between work life and home life.
But here’s the thing: if those are the only two parts of life you’re focused on, you’re definitely missing the bigger picture. A truly balanced life is comprised of 7 areas, and work-life balance is only one of them.
In order to be truly thriving, both personally and as a family, you also need to be achieving some level of success in the areas of relationships, communication, finances, physical health, faith or spirituality, and community involvement.
Imagine each of these areas as a spoke on a wheel. Each spoke is connected to the others, and if any one or more of the spokes is broken, the others also will be weakened. Conversely, if the weak spoke is bolstered and strengthened, the other areas will function better as well.
Zig Ziglar, who years ago labeled this concept as the Wheel of Life, explained it this way:
“If you just focus on career success and neglect family and spiritual growth, you will not be as successful in your professional life as you hope to be. If you make a lot of money and don’t take care of your health, you might become a chronically ill wealthy person.”
Last week, I shared with you about the 7 Day Challenge from Ziglar Family, an exciting week-long event designed to help you and your family have fun together while experiencing some positive growth in each of the 7 areas of life.
In order to make the most of this opportunity, you really should plan to go into the Challenge with an accurate picture of where you stand right now — and it must be an honest picture. The best way to do that is to take the free family check-up, which — based upon your answers — gauges where you are strongest right now and where you might focus on becoming better.
In other words, you’ll want to have a target.
Mr. Ziglar liked to tell a story about the great archer, Howard Hill. Listen to Zig tell the story as only he can:
He’s exactly right: How can you hit a target you don’t have?
The good news is that it’s not hard to find a target, especially if you’re willing to take an honest look at your current situation.
Take advantage of the Ziglar Wheel of Family Life Check-Up and then sign up for the 7-Day Family Challenge. Both of these are completely free to you, and could set you up for some life-changing moments!
“If you can’t take a huge step to begin with, take as big of a step as you can. But take it now!” — Zig Ziglar
